Peru 2016 - Day 3 - A long but good day. Part 2

PART 2 - Day 3.

Back to lunch for a minute.
Once again, oranges, fresh buns with peanut butter and jam and ham and cheese. Chips and cookies and juice boxes.
It all tastes very good in the heat.

The juice boxes so nicely arranged.

During and after lunch there's lots of time to talk.
I love seeing the relationships grow in the group as the week progresses.
Annette and Andrew.

Andrea and Judith...I think?

That's an interesting sleeping position Michelle.  : )

Colin and Joycegina taking pictures of each other.

Between lunch, which starts at 12:30 ish, and the start of VBS, which is 2 pm, we just hang out and if kids come we start to hang out with them.

Brenda in her usual spot.
She was in the exact same spot two years ago.

It's past 2 pm and the kids are coming.

Hmmmm, George and Andrew have started a dance group I think.

Daniel is working on his Spanish with one of the children.

The group begins to play soccer

and football.
He's a little small for football don't you think Danike?

The kids keep coming.

Tobie with her usual cling on kid.

Hmmmm, is that a good idea Tobie.?

Soccer (aka football) was a hit, as usual.
The kids are often better than we are.

Steve....all good.

Skipping rope is always fun too.

As is just hanging out.

The kids also learned how to play the real football game.

George taught them.
Some of them had never played this game before.

Some just took to drawing with supplies Marsha brought along.

A young super star is born.

He loved it.

I'm not sure what is happening here, but Marsha will be sure to tell us soon.  : )

Here they go again.

Zoe bringing the face painting supplies to the sanctuary.

Daniel, pensive.  : )

It seems spinning tops are popular here now.

Lots of kids seem to have them.

Cynthia getting organized to help us out with face painting.

And so it begins again.

Steve getting into the action.

This boy curious to see how it works.
Face painting was a hit once again.

3 pm.
Time to start VBS.

Time to sit down and have a child, or two, plunk themselves in your lap...as always happens with Tobie.

And Brenda

And apparently Katrina.

Brittany with some new friends.

And Lucy with her usual shot of a child in her arms.

Michelle found this little cutie...who ended up being a bit of a sneak as well.

Oh, one more face painting picture.
They all did a great job.

The end result.

We could do it on the hand as well.

Kids found Addie and Danike too.

Brittany started us off in prayer.

And then Israel got things going with some antics.
He reminds me of Ines.  : )

Songs soon broke out with Katrina and Ella and Andrew and George leading the actions up front.

The group.

So, they all did a great job.

But I don't suggest that George and Andrew take up synchronized swimming any time soon.
So uncoordinated. : )

Katrina seemed to be having fun.
I was quite surprised, and pleased, to see her up there.

With Ella of course.

Pastor Sergio looking on.
A wonderful man is he.

More actions to other songs.

Sheldon is having fun.

Israel and Gigi helped them from the sidelines.

The group got larger it seems.

Gigi helping the four up front do the actions.
She was very good.

Pastor Craig was also getting into the spirit of things.

I think we will have to get him up front before the week over.

Drama time after the songs.
Welcome back Dianne.

It was Dianne, wasnt' it.  : )

Seems Steven tired himself out playing soccer.  : )

Jackie getting in a good pose.

A view from the back.

Pastor Sergio clapping along.

Drama time.
The theme for this week is the Lord's Prayer.

Dianne did another great job of getting the children involved.

Everyone listening to the drama...well, mostly. : )

As this was happening, Miriam, Joycegina, Annette and Andrea met with 9 mothers and grandmothers.
They spent time sharing life together.
It seemed to work out well.

A nice picture.

This cute little girl.
A trouble maker too.  : )

After the drama it was time for the craft.

Cornwall was in charge today.
Calvin will be tomorrow.

We made heart necklaces today.

The end result.

And then it was time to leave, through the archway again.

We hoped to hand out animal balloons at the end of the time, but I goofed and didn't give Lauren enough time to make the 75 that would be needed.  Yep, 75 kids to start VBS off with.  She was swarmed : )
Tomorrow we start earlier.

Peter to the rescue.

VBS ended at 4:15 and our prayer service started at 5 pm with Pastor Sergio giving us some opening thoughts on Prayer.

We then sang some Spanish praise songs.

The group with several of the church present as well.

Pastor Craig spoke briefly on prayer.
He had a great message.

And then we broke into four groups for prayer.

Mixing Peruvians and Canadians.

We each shared some things, and then prayed for them.
This is not something Peruvians do very much of apparently, so this was nice to see happen.
It's a highlight for me to see this in action.
4 churches together in one place, all supporting each other in prayer.

After about 25 minutes, Pastor Sergio closed things out.
We were supposed to sing a couple of songs as a group, but time was pressing and traffic was going to get bad, so we left without singing.  Maybe on Sunday.

We left at sunset.

Getting dark as we leave Pachacutec.

We arrived back at the hostel at 7:40.
We ate supper right away.
This is a kind of potato salad.

Everyone looks tired and hungry.

Hey Leah.

Everyone enjoying the appetizer.

Dianne did NOT wear a hat today, and it sure showed on her face.

The group seated and eating.

Tobie too, didn't seem to wear a hat.
That's gonna hurt.... : )
But not according to her.
5 layers of Alo Vera seem to do the trick for her.
We will see.

The main course.  Meat and rice and mashed potatoes.
It was delicious.

So, that concludes day 3.
It was a long, but really good day.
Everyone had a great time and endured the heat well today.
I'm always amazed at how people do on these trips.
I hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did.
Talk to you tomorrow again.
A shorter day, and then a trip to the fountains.

Hey Everyone,
So great to see all the familiar faces from Peru & Canada and to see what's the Lord is doing in Pachekutec! Give a great big hug to Aunt Marsha! Carraugh says hi to Zoe & Leah, and Gillian says hi to her friends in grade 8, Katrina, Ella, and Daniel. We are happy to see Andrew & George filling in for Uncle Gerry's craziness! Praying that the rest of the week goes well! Stay safe & have fun!

Hi Peter and Daniel
It looks like my posts didn't make the cut so I will try again. The Sens won 3 to 2 against Minnesota last Monday. 😃
I miss you both. I love seeing your photos. One day Peter we will travel together.
Blessings on your day everyone. Wear your hats!

Hey Pastor Craig:
Given that you're the token American on this trip, I thought I'd keep you up to date on the news in the good old U.S. of A.
Oh wait... I bet you're a Rebublican. In that case, you don't want to know the news.
How about the sports? The Cubs have 4 wins and 11 losses in spring training. Good for last place in the Cactus league.
Ohh... Maybe you don't want to hear about the sports either.
How about we stay away from the news and sport and focus on missions?

Hey Ron: Can we get a picture of "the twins"? Are Samantha and Erin still interchangeable?

Oh, and Ron: No grammar or punctuation lessons for you today. No fair picking on you when you're sleep deprived. Maybe later.

Say "hi" to my five lovely ladies.

Hey everyone! So to start I am going to weigh in on who should win that posing contest, Lucy I think you deserve the crown but if you want a real great model you should just ask my mom ;)
By the way mom, I did post a comment yesterday but it did not end up on here, sorry I don't know what happened! It's great to see that your beard is back, haven't seen that in a while!
Steven, are you working hard or hardly working??? Dad, you would think after all those years of Zumba you would be expert up on that stage. I guess I am just going to have to help you out with that! Oh and I did giggle a little when I saw you doing crafts with the kids, how is that going with those chubby fingers of yours hehe?

Love, Jul xo
Ps: Dad, are you finally winning Pass the Pigs?

It's Thursday already? Wow, where does the time go!

Hello, everyone!

You all look like you are doing an amazing job! Keep it up!

Mom, just so you know, the sun is finally out, the Canada Geese are returning and Robins are showing up.

Oh, we got a card in the mail telling us that it has been 10 years since the family started sponsoring a child in Peru. So, congratulations!

Enjoy those fountains!

P.S. Dad, I'm not exactly sure who "pervians" are but I'm sure they are wonderful people =)

Hey, looks like so much is the same and yet different. Same busyness, sleeplessness, same great meeting of people and kids and sharing of time and gifts. Lots of new buildings, and improvements, and a lot more concrete. Sending hugs and prayers for continued safety and positive experiences. And hey, a Barrhaven post!

Hello everyone!!
LOVE the pictures! Looks like everyone is enjoying themselves (and getting painful looking burns--I see Addie still needs some lessons on applying sunscreen! haha love you). The children look so happy and excited to be spending time with you guys... mom, yes, please do bring one home :). Also, your kids are all still alive...your husband is lonely and likes to call me...and 46 Sweetland Residents say, "hello momma Jackie- from your two favourite adopted daughters".

P.s. There is a nice skunk trap beside our front deck, due to all of your hard work!!

Praying for you all <3

First an update for my daughters: First day of the CIS championship almost done.
Ottawa U lost.
Carleton Won.
Carleton plays again on Saturday.

Hey Ron: Can we vote for people to perform in the drama? I'd like to see Peter on stage. Maybe with Tobie. Deep down, you know they both want the spotlight.

Hey Annette:
I figured out how we can save lots of money on our grocery bill. Send the family to Peru! Since Ben's the only kid at home, I don't even need to buy vegetables.

Oh, and the cat did a nasty on Somebody's bed. I'll let you guess whose bed. But don't worry. I will punish accordingly. Dumb cat.

Have a great day tomorrow. Keep the energy going.
