CIA & ETM Annual Pancake Breakfast Feb 2015

Our next event is our annual Pancake breakfast Fundraiser.
This has become a tradition at Calvin now, I think.
Always lots of fun to get ready for and participate in.
It was held on Valentine's Day this year,
Saturday, February 14.

The reason it is so successful is our head cook, John.
Here we find him once again on the Friday night helping get things ready for the pancakes, with help, mostly from his family, of course.  : )

Ella and Katrina cutting grapes.  Looks like Katrina is having way more fun than Ella.

What are you trying to do Samantha?

Lucy and Megan cutting up some delicious strawberries.

Sarah cutting up watermelon.

Oh, yes....Ceci joined us for the event just for fun.
But she doesn't look so happy does she......

Now she does....  : )

hmmmm, now Sarah and Ceci are unhappy...
Hard to figure these two out.

John is usually peppered with questions during prep night.
He handles them very well.

Time to combine the ingredients....

And look at the colour that comes out of all that work.

Ella, that's a strange pose.....

Samantha hard at work.

"So, Ella and Katrina, this is how you cut pineapple."

After a short sleep (we have done away with sleepovers during these events so we are actually awake and happy on Saturday morning), it was back to the church to set up the fellowship hall.

Good morning!!!!!

Carmella decided there was no point in getting out of her PJ's.  Kevin and Carmella are getting the donation envelops ready.  A VERY important task for the event.  : )

Fellowship hall starting to take shape.

The crew putting the final touches on the fruit that goes with the pancakes.

Bananas are the final piece.  They go brown if done the night before.  Not a good site.

John showing this group how to make batter for the blueberry pancakes.

We serve lots of coffee at this event.  Lucy is still asleep I think.  : ) Alexa is trying to wake her up.  : )

Work continues on the fellowship hall.

Those envelopes almost done you two?

The kitchen starts to hum with work.

A rhythm starts to happen in the kitchen as things get moving under the watchful eye(s) of John.

Elayna......hmmmmm

Time to brief those in the kitchen on what their jobs are.

And then it's time to wait for the patrons to come.
I think we had a 1/2 hour to spare.

Everyone waited in different ways, as you can see.

Some, like Daniel here... Well, I'm not sure what he's doing.....

Apparently John and I coordinated our clothing for this day.  But here's the question....shirt tucked in, or shirt not tucked in? Hmmmmm...  Still a raging debate in my family at least.  : )

Blueberry pancake batter ready to go and some test pancakes on the griddle.

Lots of orange juice served that day as well.

Lucy was our whipped cream distributor again this year, as per her request....but apparently next year she things we should just have it at the tables....hmmmmm

Coffee and Tea ready to go.

Our table settings.

Elayna eating the test pancakes.
Figures.

More batter to be made.

John starts testing out and making the panakoeken.

Into the warmers they go.

And before you know it, its 8 a.m. and people are arriving.
Our first guests always get their picture taken.

hmmm, I like the variation in colour....  : )

On the way in guests could either grab an envelope and fill it in right away, or bring it to their table, evaluate the service, and THEN fill it in. : )

Tables begin to fill up with families.

And Lucy begins her whipped cream distribution.

It starts to get pretty noisy in the fellowship hall.

But everyone is enjoying the food and fellowship....
and loving the whipped cream.  : )

And they keep on coming.  : )

All ages are welcome.  : )

Kevin and Carmella taking a break from working so hard.

Seems these guys are as well.
Get back to those dishes, Thomas, Daniel and Jared!!

We have 2 shifts for this event.
8:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m....
Doesn't matter though...everyone comes pretty much at the same time...ish....

A full house. YAHOO!!

Good fellowship amongst Calvin CRC members.

Hmmmm, not sure how THAT got in there.  : )

Or that one.
Going to have to talk to the photographer.....

This is such a great event. It brings Calvin's Cong. together and raises funds for our youth group.

John hard at work cranking out those panakoeken.

With a face like that, Nicolette, no one is going to donate.
SMILE!!!!!  : )

More fellowshipping Pics.

Lucy and Megan.
I THINK they are enjoying themselves.  ??

People even stayed well after their shift was finished.
A testament to the great relationships that are fostered within this church community.

Time for us to clean up from the first shift....

....and eat ourselves. Well, not ourselves actually....
you get the idea.

Hey Shawn....long time no see.....

Time for shift #2

Let the fun begin.   : )

Even some long lost past Calvinites showed up.
Great to see them again.

I guess I know the reason why Lucy wants does not want to  hand out whipped cream next year.....she got tired walking around.  : )

Smiles mean good food.  : )

The kitchen keeps humming to keep up with demand.

Time for me to take a break and have breakfast with Joycegina.

And before we know it, it's time to clean up.

And clean up we must....
we sure make a mess.  : )

And it's time for the crew to enjoy the "fruit" of their labour.  : )

And then there's Daniel.......

What, Ella? You don't like your dad's cooking...??

Taste good, everyone?

John relaxing (finally) with Harrison.

Slowly, the clean up begins.

I think we worked Elayna tooooo hard today.  : )

And Kevin isn't being nice to his sweet wife here.....
I sure didn't teach him this.

So ends another great pancake breakfast fundraiser.
We raised over $2600 to help our youth in their youth events (It's an off Peru year). A portion of those funds will also go to Gamaliel's Christian School to aid in Tuition assistance.  Thank you to all who donated.
