Calvin Fellowship Dinner - Sunday, September 25

Each year, in September, Calvin hosts a fellowship potluck dinner to kick off the ministry season. Jason is our new Fellowship Committee chair, so he was a bit nervous about what was going to transpire.

I helped him out, but I too never quite know how these events are going to turn out.  How many people will actually show up?  Will there be enough food, etc?  Pointless worrying because in the 9 years I've been doing this, we've always had a good turnout and enough food....but what about THIS time...  : )

We have a "quick" coffee maker in the kitchen that Jason was unaware of.  He didn't know how to make coffee with it, so I showed him, quickly.  You put the filter in the filter part, add coffee, place it where it needs to go, put the carafe underneath and then get another jug with water and pour it in the top.  There is preheated water ready to go so it starts coming out as soon as you start putting the fresh water in....

Well, as you can well imagine, men don't always listen to directions very well.  As I re-entered the kitchen I heard a commotion by the coffee maker and water was pouring out the bottom on to the heating element.  Jason was using the carafe to pour the water into the coffee maker.  Thankfully Joycegina was close by to save the situation.   I think Jason  now knows what to do when it comes to making coffee with that coffee maker.  : )

People slowly began to arrive and place their food in the kitchen.  I went into my office to check an email, and when I left the fellowship hall it was 5:25 pm and not too many people were there.  I was wondering, again, what the turnout would be.   When I came back to the fellowship hall about 7 minutes later, the place was packed and more tables were being set up.  About 80 people were seated and the place was buzzing.....What were Jason and I even worried about....  : )

We started our time with worship.
A small worship team led us in singing.

John brought along some breads to sample for a fundraiser they were doing for Peru.  They were delicious and I think he even got some orders out of people who were in attendance.

Back to the fellowship dinner.  Here you see all of us celebrating in worship. Hard to do when there are delicious smells of food coming from the kitchen.  : )

After worship, it was time to eat.  LOTS of great food and lots of variety.  I LOVE potlucks.  : )

During the meal, Jason had some games for us to do to get better acquainted.  He placed stickers on our backs with names, or animals, or places, and we had to find our partner name.  We had to ask questions about what was on our back, and only "yes" or "no" answers could be given.

John ended up being a donkey.  I laughed.....I ended up being his partner...Balaam...I laughed even more.   : )

You need to know that at potlucks, or any social gathering where there is food, men are always trying to find ways to be served....really!  : )   Everyone was up in line getting their food, but I noticed that Jacob was sitting all by himself  with one of his children.  Seems he took child watching duty, but was going to get served his food.....I like his style.  : )

As the line thinned, people sat down to enjoy the great food.

The game continued on through most of the dinner time.  Lots of great conversations and guessing went on.  A great game selection Jason.

Hmmmm,  someone wants to be a deacon in church.  Do they start that young?  : )

After dinner, we did another game to allow our stomachs to settle before having dessert.  Seems we waited too long because Evert started complaining about having to wait in line for his dessert........Patience Evert, patience.

Seems that Megan was also complaining about waiting.  What is it with sweets and being impatient....?  : )

If you were patient, it paid off because the desserts were AMAZING.

Soon it was time to clean up, and return to our homes.  Thanks to all who came out for the evening.  Another great fellowship potluck dinner in the books, and time to go for a walk to work off all that food.........
