Calvin's Annual Church Picnic

Calvin's Annual Picnic in the Park

The first Wednesday in June brings people from Calvin out to Andrew Haydon Park.  We gather under the shelter there and and so begins our annual church picnic.

This year Evert and Annet were first on scene to help with preparations.

The BBQ's arrive on que and are set up.

As more people arrive, more people help to get things ready.

Ruth is our faithful purchaser of the supplies.

Jason and I do some of the other pre-preparation work but much of it gets done at the park.

Some work, and some watch others work. All part of the picnic experience.

Our "mature" section of Calvin, gathered and ready to relax.  : )

Martin and John ready to cook.

Joycegina and Annette look ready to enjoy the evening.....I wish I could say the same for Tobie.  :)

As the food is being cooked, the socializing begins in earnest.

The younger crowd has claimed their territory.

Blankets begin to spot the landscape, inviting others to join in the discussions already taking place.

Some Young People hovering over the chips.  Standing guard of course.

Soon the food was prepared, and Jason opened the evening in prayer.

Time to EAT!

Lots of great hamburgers and hot dogs and salads and chips to partake of.

Jonah stocking up.  Didn't even have time to set up his chair.  : )

Tobie and Miranda settling in.

The line keeps moving.

A great view of the river from the shelter.

It seems that there was a slight miscalculation in the order of hamburger buns, and since I usually eat last at these occasions, I found myself eating a hamburger, minus the bun.
A new experience for me, but fun.  : )

Jeremy made a lettuce sandwich.  Improvisation.  : )

Once the food is consumed, the fellowship continues until people decide they want to go home.  The crowd slowly thins until Jason and I are left.

Some of the extra food is left for the birds to consume.

Seems Annette wanted to become a hood ornament.

It also seems that the BBQ's needed to be put back into the van and Annette and Jeannine were ready to do it.

Well maybe not Jeannine.  It ended up being Annet and me putting the BBQ's back.

I guess Jeannine decided to play the face making game with Ella instead.  : )

And so draws to an end another successful Calvin Picnic experience.  Thanks to all who helped plan, who helped prepare the food, and of course, all of you who came out to enjoy good food, good weather, and good fellowship.  Until next June.  : )
