Various youth events over the past months - Training, TACO, Grad, YA, Gamaliel Church

Greetings all,

It's been a while since I've found the time to blog, and so now you will get a bunch in a row.  : )

I'll start with some events that just had a few pictures attached to them.  That doesn't make them any less important, however.

So, here we gooooooooo.....

Youth Leader's Training Day
Every once in a while it's good for youth leaders to get together and get to know each other better.  Just makes for a better youth ministry.

Back in January we did just that, through a nice brunch at IKEA (they have great food btw).

And then travelling downtown to do an escape room.
As we are waiting for our room Victoria and Scott challenge themselves to JENGA, while Rachel catches up on the latest news  : )

Success.  We got out of the escape room with some minutes to spare.  Was hard going at times, but teamwork truly helps make this sort of event work.  Whoot!! Way to go team.

Gamaliel Church Anniversary

We have had a relationship with Gamaliel church in Peru for many years now.  They celebrated their 15th anniversary as a church a couple of months ago.  Below are some of the pictures of that celebration time.

A brief video of their choir

Young Adult Lunches

We are blessed with many young adults in our church.  Living in a city that has a couple of Universities and Colleges helps that.  In order to help them make connections to a faith community we host a bi weekly lunch for them.  Food and fellowship have proven helpful for this group to get connected to Calvin and to other Christian Young Adults.  At the end of each year I try to host a lunch with those who have provided lunches for the lunch times (get that : ) ) ?

Here is the group at our final meal time together with those who also prepared meals for us over the year.  On behalf of these who benefited from your generosity we say THANK YOU.

Oh, and just for fun they decided to pose AWAY from the camera as well.  : )  All in good fun.  : )

FINAL TACO NIGHT

Our youth group has been doing a mentoring ministry with our grade 9 - 12s for the past 6 or so years.  We call it TACO night (Take a CIA member Out).  We also serve a TACO meal at the end of the ministry season to celebrate the year and hear from those that want to share about how their year has gone.

Here they are all assembled and ready for fellowship around a meal of TACO's.

Always appreciated.  : )

Grade 12 Graduation Gathering

We have also held a tradition over the past years of gathering with our grade 12's and celebrating their milestone of graduation, and we do that with their mentors now.

We gathered in Judy's home this time around.
A nice cozy place to meet.
We graduated out Shauna, Samantha, and Janika this year.
"The Breakfast Club" as I call them, in that once a month I met with them for breakfast to share life.

Time to eat.  Whoot.

Judy put up some nice decorations to celebrate the occasion.  Nice touch.  : )

Sharing fellowship over a meal is always nice.

Once we ate, we gathered together again and asked each graduate to share a bit about:
 how their year had gone,
anything they wanted to share about youth group and their mentor/mentee relationship,
what they hoped to do this summer,
what they hoped to do over the next year(s),
and if there was anything we could pray for.

Once that was done, we placed that graduate in a chair and surrounded them and laid hands on them (if they were ok with that) and prayed over and for them.

Times like this are special.

More themed items : )

And of course, we ended with dessert.  Whoot!
Thanks Judy for your hospitality, and thanks Shauna, Samantha, and Janika for the memories of your life thus far as part of Calvin's church community.

May the Lord bless you and keep you and may His face shine upon you in this next chapter of your life.

And THANK YOU to those who came along side you and were part of your life for many year as mentors!
