CIA - Helping out at the Ottawa Food Bank

Back in January, CIA took a Tuesday night and travelled to the Ottawa Food Bank to help sort food.

It's been a while since we helped out at the food bank
 and some things have changed.

There is new office space.

There is also a volunteer room now, but unfortunately some pipes burst in the room and it was closed for repairs.

We simply placed our coats in the office area instead.

We then headed into the warehouse area
 to begin our sorting.

Lots and lots of food to sort.

The sorting area.

A volunteer for the food bank explains to us
how to sort the food.

The sorting area is now different as well.
Nicely done.

And so we began our sorting.
Sarah and Laura deciding where things need to go.

Kyle getting things ready for sorting on the sorting table.

There were all sorts of boxes that we placed items into.
It took a while to figure out where things went.

Hey Simon.  How are you doing?

Kevin unpacking the donations.

Jonathan picked all the heavy bags.
Show off.  : )

Everyone hard at work.

I guess boxes come in large and small ones.
Why aren't you helping out Jonathan?

Hey Annette.
Thanks for coming out.
I know you had fun this evening.

Mel packing up the sorted boxes.
These are then placed on skids ready to be stored and then delivered to city food distribution centres.

Running like a well oiled machine.

Yes, I worked as well.

Laura writing down the contents of the box.

Kyle...you ok?  : )

So much to sort through.

Heather had lots of fun.

The sorting continues....

These are the skids where we placed
 the sorted, filled boxes.

I'm teaching Annette a more efficient way
to pack the boxes.  : )

It wasn't all work.
We took time to socialize as well.

It was a good night, and apparently we got a great deal done during our 1.5 hour time.
Thanks for giving of your time CIA members.
