Painting of Youth Room

Last Saturday the youth group spent most of Saturday repainting the youth room.  Enjoy the pictures and commentary that accompanies them.....

Jeannine may have a broken arm, but she wasn't going to let that stop her.  A good glove, some masking tape and away we go.....

Before we began painting, I contemplated only having a couple of drop sheets for the room, but then remembered that these were inexperienced young people painting a room.  It proved to be a very wise decision.  I think there was more paint on the floor than on the walls at times.  Here David is giving Chris pointers on how to get the paint into the cup so he could begin cutting in.

Hannah is a self confessed new painter.  Here she is getting some pointers from Jeannine on cutting in.  She was a fast learner.

David proved to have a steady hand when it came to cutting in.  However, he had some issues with backing into newly painted walls and getting his bum full of paint, as well as splattering paint onto newly painted walls.

Rosy had a great time painting, but well, she did have some issues with hitting walls and stuff.

I actually like painting when in the right mood.  Here's a picture just to prove that I did some work that day.  Oh, and if you notice on my neck, there is some paint there.  That would be courtesy of Rosy.  I got her back though, believe me.  !!!

The group hard at work.  All kidding aside, they all worked hard this day and we accomplished our goal of getting the room painted.

Janine couldn't take it any longer and began cheating by putting tape on the base boards.

Hannah continues to learn how to paint.  She moved on to rolling.  Not half bad, actually.

Oh, me again.  I like rolling too.

It seems that David got a bit carried away during his painting.  Thinking that he would have his name on the wall;  and Kevin encouraging him......hmmmmm

There were some tight painting spots.  David did a great job cutting in in those areas.

Kevin had to leave in the morning, but he put some time in painting and supervising.  Here's the proof.

I don't think Megan had ever painted before in her life.  Hence, the masking tape over top of the baseboard.

Now here's a typical scene.  All the girls are painting and the boys......they are figuring out the play list for songs and looking at pictures.  Typical.

I don't think Hannah knew that Janine had such a mischievous streak in her.  I only wish she'd followed through on that, but she didn't.  Her hair would have then matched her jacket.

Janine has been hounding me to get this youth room cleaned up for over a year now.  She was determined to clean every inch of the place.  The place did need a good cleaning for sure.

As you can see, there was paint on the floors.  You have know idea how much really ended up on the tarps.  Not hard to have happen with someone like Hannah who is talking away with the paint cup in her hand and then decides to tip the cup as she's talking because she forgot it was in her hand.........  : )  Ah, teenagers.

Joy did a good job of getting the paint out of the rollers before we washed them.

I took some time getting the paint out of the carpet before leaving.  You'd think that these YP would realize that when they step in paint on the tarp, and then walk off the tarp that it's going to transfer onto the carpet.....Ah, Teenagers!

If you click on this picture to enlarge it, you will notice something a bit odd.  Jeannine and Janine sitting in three different places at the same time.  How do they do that?  : )

Her is a picture of the room completed.  You can't see the back wall.  It's more of a cream colour.  All in all, I was quite impressed with how things turned out.  The colours match pretty good, the room was repositioned to better accommodate our growing group, and the YP did a good job and worked hard as some learned how to paint.

Great job everyone.  I look forward to doing this again in about 8 years.  : )

Oh, and below is a short video of the group painting, JUST so you get a taste of what was going on for the day.
