2024 Mission Trip - David, Kentucky - Wednesday

Day 3.

Mid Mission Trip

Wednesday.

After I published the blog last night, some of the group wanted to see it as well.  A nice feeling ; )
Nice to hear the laughter and shock at what I put here : )

We were up at 6:30 a.m. again.
Ryne didn't disappoint me again either : )

"Pake" AKA Harold with another shirt of his.
AND smiling.
You need to know his back isn't the greatest, but he pushes through regardless.  Whoot!!!!

Jason S with his morning coffee.
A much happier man with his coffee.

Janene up and making breakfast, and Mary distracting her : )

7 a.m. and morning devotions with Pastor Craig.

I call this the "Mature" corner.   : )

Lunch preparations.

And Blueberry French Toast Bake for Breakfast.

Some of the gang is ready to go.

11 degrees Celcius this morning.
Gonna be a glorious day.

Relatives all together : )
Touching moment.

Erin, and Jon our construction manager, chatting it up.

Again, mostly the beginning pics are from our group, but there will be others from the other groups as well.
We started by sanding the mud that was now dry.

And we continued on with the ceiling.

Cadie did not want me to take this picture with her head tilted back, but that's like asking a child to keep their hands out of the cookie jar. : )

She was a good sport.

And then she carried on.

Melissa helping out as usual : )
She is so happy that we are doing the work we are doing.
She ended up crying as she looked at what we were doing.
Touching moment and reminds us that though we may think we aren't making a difference, we are.

Elyssa and Megan needed a break to get more energy back : )

Lewis helping us sand.

Holden getting the ceiling in place.

It takes a few to get the ceiling to stay up.

Elyssa making up for her height deficiency :)
Not bad for someone who doesn't like heights.

The sanding continues.

Cadie, how you have aged : )

Megan, Elyssa and Cadie after an hour of sanding.
With masks.

Without masks.

We took a morning break to rest the arms.

And then the work continued.

Still thankful for the awesome weather this week.

Lots of dust was created.  We will clean it up.

The carpet will be replaced by Melissa so we tossed this one.

Melissa wanted to thank us for our work, so she bought us pizza.
So kind of her.

A double lunch experience. : )

Megan, what are you doing??

Holden wants to put a coin on the tracks and have a train go over it, so he walked the tracks.  I don't know if he put a coin down or not.

We talked things over with Jon and decided we would take out the bottom wall of the hallway because it was pretty rotted.

We removed the red metal shielding from the bottom of the house so we could assess if the 2 x 6 brace was rotted or not.

We had to cut through the drywall and then some plywood planking.

New wood we put down for the sub floor, but under that it's pretty rotted.

We cleaned up the dust as good as possible so Melissa would not have to live in the dust overnight.

Not perfect, but not bad.

The wall is ready for priming tomorrow.

Our group actually finished at 3 p.m. and Melissa suggested we go to see the Dewy Dam, so we did.
Lots of very winding roads : )

A plaque !!!!  : )

They walked down one side of the dam,

And the other side of the dam was a playground which the group spent time playing on as well.
We arrived back at 4:15 p.m.

Now on to Marika's group.

Claudia and Abby spent their day taking out more rotten floorboards.

And adding new ones.

Taking down more old railings.

And adding new ones.

Replacing more rotten posts.

Group photo on the finished stairs with our homeowner.

The ride back got interesting when we met a schoolbus on a one-lane road.

Now on to Mary and Pastor Craig's Group
Found this interesting bus???

Leah, Kaley, and Eli taping and mudding the ceiling.

Leah and Kaley got a little carried away with the mud...

Pastor Craig and Eli doing a good job mudding the ceiling.

Cutting the panels for the walls.

More panels.

Screwing down the loose side of the wall.

Luke, Eli, and Nate adding the insulation to the bathroom ceiling.

Yolandi also helped.

Finishing adding the wall to the bedroom.

Stapling the last panel to the wall.

Jason G, Nate, Luke, and Eli taking a nap in McDonald's.

Snoring...

Pastor Craig and Sam doing work BEHIND the scenes.

Ripping out the white wall in the kitchen.

Getting the wall ready for insulation.

More cockroaches and mice.

Installing the commode.

So that brings us to the end of day three. We are making good progress to the point that we think most of our groups will be done tomorrow.   If that's the case we will try to figure out what else we can do for Friday.

BUT, even if we ended today we realized today that we have made an impact on the three homeowners already this week.  Pastor Craig's homeowner didn't want to even have people in his home, and now the group sees progress in conversation with him, and even taking a liking to the group.

Jason S' group has had a very happy lady getting her new deck and she just loves them.

Our group has watched Melissa help us out, take pride in what she and we are doing, and even apologize for the shape of her home in that she thought she was getting a better home than she did.   But she was moved to tears today and only sees the progress made.

Now on to the rest of the evening.
We mostly arrived home early, so the leaders took some time to swap workplace stories.

We got our World Renew t-shirts today.
We wore them for our meal time.

Nice green colour : )  on most of the people. !

Supper is served.  Spaghetti and Salad and garlic bread again.

I got special garlic bread.  No cheese.  But this burnt offering didn't pass the muster for me : ).  It did for Ryne however.

Some good eating shots.
I've felt they were not in great supply so far : )

Kitchen crew this time around.

Group picture time.
Holden is having a moment I think : )

Entire group.

Harold and Jason S' group

Craig and Mary and Yolandi's Group

Daniel and my group

Mavis also wanted to be in the picture : )

Kim and Janene.
Doing an awesome job of cooking.

As we waited for the dishes to be done, Megan decided she wanted to vacuum the place.   Apparently, she really enjoys it.  Go figure  : )

Group time.  Sharing High's, Low's and seeing God at work.

Small group time.

Kim and Lewis (mom and son) playing some cribbage.

And the group decided to play 4 men / boys on the couch for a while.

So there you have it.
Day 5.
Good days so far.
Learning happening as well.

I hope you enjoy the blog.
Leave a comment and it will be posted soon by me.

Whoot!!!!!
