SERVE 2015 - Day 2: Participants Arrive

DAY TWO!!!!
We awoke at 8:00 am ish, and had breakfast at 8:30 am

Becca with her very much needed cup of coffee.

Our Breakfast meal.

Alexa looks like she got lots of sleep.

We opened with morning devotions.
I asked Pastor Kaleb if he would do this with us every morning.  He did a wonderful job.  He should be a Pastor or something.  : )

The classic line up for breakfast shot.
Lisa is doing such a great job taking pictures.
I'm going to have to have her come back again next year.  : )

Awe,  Katrina does love me.  : )

Everyone's chipper this morning, ready for the day's training and participants to arrive.

Our t-shirt this year.

Heather looking at my blog post.
That makes me feel soooooo good.  : )

So, this is the room that hosts just mentors.
Man, are they slobs.....  : )  Can't wait to see how it looks (and smells) by Wednesday.  : )

Getting ready for more training time.

Mark gave us a great 5 minute inspirational message.

Joanna walked us through each of our participants who will be coming today. It's important for us to get to know them before they arrive.

After training was some free time.  Heather and Alexa found the 100 piece puzzles I see.

The stage is starting to take on it's final shape.

Kaitlyn helping set up for small group time.

Hmmmm,  Football in the basement.  Must be Braidon doing this again.   : )

Interesting Heather......

I'm putting together our chariots once again.
We use them once a year for SERVE it seems now.
They were made many years ago during my Sarnia ministry days for VBS.  We used them here for VBS as well.  Nice to be able to use them again.

We test drove them.
Nathaniel and Justin seem to be having a very good time.  Love that red hair.

Registration all set up and ready to go.

Here's Deshawn saying hello to Braidon.

Olivia and Sarah finally finished the warm fuzzy table.
It will get A LOT of use this week.  : ) Great job!

Janika just having fun as she usually does.
She's having fun with Zach.

Deshawn and Carissa getting to know each other before we begin our games time.
When our participants arrived, they received their name badge, a tool belt with tools, a t-shirt an other small goodies.  They got their pictures taken and then they relaxed until 4 pm (arrival time was between 2 - 4 pm).

Not every participant arrived  at the same time.
Here's Lysanne waiting patiently.

Old Friends reunited at SERVE. Touching.
That's Kyle and Zach.

Lisa doing a craft that will be going up on the Sanctuary wall soon.

Jessica creating with Lego.

Warm fuzzies starting to accumulate in the mailboxes.

After Supper it was time for small groups!!
Tyler is ready to go.  : )

Justin and Joseph working through the workbook.

Then it was time for worship and speaker.
Tyler LOVES worship time.
I see he has a new electric guitar.

Sarah and Janika lifting up praises to God.
Alex doing the same in the background.

A shot of the group gathered for worship.

We always have help during worship time.  : )

And then it was time for Mark to speak.

He started out by having some previous Participants share words of wisdom about how to have fun at SERVE, what they were afraid of in coming for the first time, and how they over came that fear.

And once again Mark involved me in his shenanigans.
But I love doing this with him.

Alex helping me.

Mark loves audience participation.

After worship and speaker time, it was craft time.
We have some budding artists in the group.  Ryan doing a great job.

Zach too.

A beautiful picture.

Philippe enjoying the creative side of himself.

John loves art.  I see many of his creations on FaceBook.

Ben under the watchful eye of Joy.

After Craft time it was snack time and then bed time.
The first bed time went very well this year.  Yeah!!!!!

We end our evening in the youth room with our mentors sharing how our day went. I'm super proud of all our mentors already.  They have done great work, and they all look so TIRED.  : )

Tomorrow is another day.  Stay tuned to see what happens.

How did you get Pastor K to smile with his teeth showing in a "posed" shot...doesn't happen here. Thanks for doing this, it helps us connect!

Some answers to Ron's questions.....
Those linked arm groupings were participants and mentors playing clothespin tag. The object was to steal other group's clothes pins.
Using the chariots, the mentors were to ferry all the participants to the other side of the park. And those towels were flinging water balloons into another towel. Of course sometimes they didn't make it to the next towel. Finally, those squished participants and mentors kept singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat with variations, on an increasingly smaller space. All these games 'broke the ice' and started everyone on the path of getting along and enjoying each other's company.
