SERVE - Day 5 - Tuesday - Work Day and Bowling

It's now 11:30 pm.  Another day has been completed.  Read on to see how things went for us today.

I had a harder time getting up this morning. My alarm went off at 7:30 am, and the next thing I knew it was 7:58 am.  I jumped off my mattress (well, actually I crawled off my mattress)  got dressed and scampered out of my room.  The first thing I saw was Alex and Jacob at the warm fuzzy table, making warm fuzzies of course.

Shawn was up early this morning.  He's making lots of friends, and causes us many a laugh with his antics.  Here is just wants to hold Ethan's hand for a while.  I guess he's had enough of Joanna for a bit.

The kitchen crew arrives much earlier than I wake up  (but I stay up much later than they go to bed, so we are even, not that I'm keeping score or anything : ) )  and they were almost ready with our breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon.  Very good once again.

It looks like Fayth had a good night's sleep.  Nice smile.  I think that was her 3rd cup of coffee.  No wonder she's smiling.

Each morning many in the group find warm fuzzies in their mailboxes.  Many different people have been sending notes to our participants from different churches.  Each participant and mentor is also matched with a prayer partner for the week.  Thank you for doing this.

Breakfast was soon served, and all enjoyed a good meal before heading out to our work sites again.

Ah, Rey.  My blog wouldn't be complete without his smiling face.

Kyle once again gives the thumbs up to the food.

Anne is still smiling.  I'm continually amazed at the gifts and talents of all those who help to make this SERVE function like a well oiled machine.  Each comes with their own gifts that others just couldn't do, and each contributes in ways that are unique and special.  I just amazes me as I sit back and watch SERVE function.

Rosy once again doesn't like the fact that I'm taking her picture.  Suck it up girl!

Each morning Rey gives us our special assignment.  Here he is getting the group ready to take in today's assignment.  We had to find people in pain today.

The kitchen crew once again enjoying the fruit of their cooking labour.

After breakfast, and our assignment, it was time to work again.  Below are a group of pictures from our different work sites.  Here is Joel and Greg working at the Bibles for Missions Store.

I think that Charlotte wants this dress.  How much is that dress in the window.........

Kayla working at the food bank.

Kyle too.

Kyle and Amber  working at Jericho Road.

Ethan and Steve sorting food at Jericho Road.

Shawn and Megan cleaning at Jericho Road.  Apparently Shawn worked so hard that he worked everyone else out of a job.

Kyle and Steve getting ready to SERVE food at the mission.

So to are Rachel, John and Micheal.

Amy and Joy interacting with residents at Starwood.

Here is the group having fun with more of the residents.

Rebecca cleaning hand railings at Viewmount.

She also took the time to socialize with some of the residence their.

After working hard it was time to relax for a bit before lunch.  John is having a GREAT time.

Some people don't have very good table manners, especially when someone is taking a picture!!!!

This is Mary Jane.  Let me tell you a bit about her.  She's what we call our "SERVE ANGEL".  Mary Jane is our nurse, but she is also much more.  She has been our mother hen for some of our team, as well as someone who has given much more than her time here.  I am very thankful for people like MJ who help to make our SERVE's special.  Your generosity does not go unnoticed by those who know you.  THANKS A TONNE!!!!

John just loves the camera. A consistent young man.  The same pose EVERY time.  But always a smile.  He's a real ham too.

Once in  a while I just like to pull out my camera and point it at someone and see what happens.  With Alex, you can bet it's going to be some sort of interesting pose.  Here he and Ben get in to the act together.

We have visitors come and see us once in a while.  Here is Bea with her grand daughter.  She just had to see them while here.  She looks happy  : ).

After lunch it was small group time again.

Here is  the end result of the coaster craft from last night.

Now you might be wondering why I took this picture of people walking down the stairs.  Here's why.  After small group time it was time to take showers.  At 2 pm I began getting that process in motion.  Everyone getting their shower attire, and making sure everyone had socks for bowling.  As we piled people into the vehicles, we noticed that some had spots missing.  All of a sudden it dawned on us that maybe, just maybe one of the groups was still in small group time.  Sure enough, when Evert went to check, they were deeply involved in their group discussion and craft stuff.  We had to tell them to stop.  They didn't even realize it was after 2 pm, and they didn't hear all our noise either  (they are upstairs within earshot of all of us).  So, I compliment Bea and Grace once again.  Your hard work has been paying off.

After showers (and another shower as we entered the bowling alley due to a downpour) it was time to bowl.  And bowl we did.

Steve was the consummate bowler today.

Here's some in the group having a great time listening to the LOUD music in the bowling alley.  Lots of people were dancing to the music, and as Shellie would say, the "beat of their own drum."

Here are two from the team showing us their talent in backwards bowling.

John received lots of letters from home (California) today.  He was VERY excited.  He and Rachel spent a good deal of time going over the letters.

Then it was time for supper. Hamburgers and hot dogs and Harold and I were the cooks for the evening.

Remember that warning from Sara I told you about yesterday.  Well, I found out what it was today.  Hannah distracted me long enough to have Sara handcuff me.  She had a hoot putting on those cuffs.  Unfortunately, they were a bit SMALL.   Painful actually.  And, little did I realize that Shellie's talk was on Pain.

Kyle, and others, spent some time before dinner playing COPS.  We have some great video of the team getting  into the act.

Then it was time for dinner.

Ethan and Steve and Sara enjoying the hamburgers.

Here are Tobi and Lucy.  They have come each day to help in the kitchen to do dishes.  Thanks for helping out.

After dinner constable Rey made sure everyone entered headquarters with the proper I.D.

Worship was once again GREAT.

Worship time is taking on new twists.  No longer is it instruments.  It has now become singing as well.

Kyle LOVES the drums.

Constable Rey hand delivers another code message to Shellie.

Shellie doing another amazing object lesson.

Here she is using matches again.

The end message on the burned paper.....GOD CARES.

Here's Shellie and Tyler smashing a water bottle.

Worship time always ends with a great song.  Here we are gathering as community.  It was neat.

Relationships continue to form.  Many people will be crying on Thursday.

David and Tyler enjoying some quality time together.

We then entered into our evening time of sports, crafts, and movie.  Here's Alex and Jacob making at Bird house.

Rebecca and Fontana are making good progress on their bird house too.

We often talk about being stretched during our time at SERVE.  Here is Bea making a bird house.  She's never done anything like that before, but she did an AWESOME job.  I think she was quite proud of herself too.  Way to go Bea.

Amy was quite proud of how her bird house turned out as well.

So, another day in the books.  Only 1.5 days left.  Time sure has gone fast again.  I'll be sad when we have to start cleaning up everything.   But, I won't dwell on that now.  It's time for bed, and rest for a busy day tomorrow.  We have our motorcycle and fancy car rides, a fancy dinner, and line dancing, and a special surprise for our team as well.  Until tomorrow......TTFN  (That's Ta Ta For Now, in case you were wondering Esther).
