Ottawa SERVE 2014 - Day 3:Worship, Motorcycle Rides and Ray's Reptiles, etc.

Good Morning everyone.
Day 3 is now completed and ready to be blogged about.
Thanks again Joy for the nearly 1,100 picture memories we have of today.
Only 86 pictures for the blog though.. You must be slacking off.  : )
Whew.
Well, after a quiet night, it was time to face day 3.

Mitchell and Sara start off the day drawing.

Ryan getting new shoe laces.

People gathered around my computer to read yesterdays blog.

Looks like they are enjoying seeing pictures of themselves.

Here's my office/Bedroom.
It's rather neat still, wouldn't you say?

Another picture of the blog on the computer.
Really Joy!!

Phil and Niesje filling out warm fuzzies.

John and Maddie having together time.

Becca with her morning cup(s) of coffee, and Steven just chillin'.

Time for Breakfast.
Another great shot.

Today it was cinnamon buns, cereal, and yogurt.
We are eating well here.  : )

Amy and Carolyn enjoying breakfast together.

Jacob came in for Praise Team for church this morning and made the rounds.  He has been a Mentor in the past, and Alex needed to greet him.

Whoa Joanna....what's up???
My what big teeth you have....bahahahahaha

After breakfast we cleared some things out and got the church ready for Sunday's service.  Here are a group of Participants being our greeters for the morning.

John is always a gentleman.  : )
(Wait...this picture looks familiar...)

A reunion.  Sara and Hannah were buddies several years ago.  A cute picture.

Getting ready to start church.  Summer and Amy in the foreground and Shawn and Rey in the background.

Hey Jessica.
Nice smile.

Jessica and Esther.

John and Maddie, together again.

More people getting ready for church.
Hey Jordana.

We began church at 10 am.
Lots of our participants like to play while we worship.

Shawn is getting his guitar ready

Alex with his guitar.

We commissioned our team this morning.

Mark gave another message.

Today we used a train to illustrate an old parable of the lost sheep.

The church full of worshippers.
A wonderful service.

Jonathan, our videographer for the week.

Hey Joy.  You're in a picture today.
Nice one with you and Amy.

A great game of sorry.

After church we're setting up the fellowship hall so we could have lunch.  Thanks Deshawn.

Janika and Braidon and Amy talking with Zach.

Lunch time.  : )

John, again being a gentleman.

Lisa getting her sloppy joes.

Phil waiting for Niesje to come.

Another food shot.  I guess I deserve that since I take so many of other people.  : )

Lucy sharing a moment with  Lisa.

After lunch it was time for small groups.

Nice teeth Braidon.

Mitchell doing small group time with Megan.

What is Niesje thinking about?  hmmm
She's been a great small group leader.

After small group time it was time to travel to Ottawa Christian School and enjoy motorcycle rides.
Amy's ready to go.

The red motorcycle was very popular. Here's Mitchell ready to go.

We had 4 motorcycles this time.
Just enough to give everyone a ride.

Maddie ready to go for a ride.

Alex always loves a motorcycle ride.

Ryan enjoying the summer sun.

John waiting for his ride.
Janika was not allowed to go for a ride....
She was pretty bummed, but you can't tell here.

Here are the motorcycles ready to depart for yet another ride.

After a great time on the motorcycles it was time for Ray's Reptiles.
Here is a wonderful tarantula.
People got to hold it....not for me.  : )

Here's Maddie letting a gecko walk off her arm.

Same with Melanie.

We saw a tortoise which was a hit.

He was big and old.

Zach really loved the Iguana.

So did Lisa.

And also Sara.

Isn't he cute...or was that she??

Another animal was this Cayman at
about 1/2 his full size.
We carefully stroked his back.

The final animal was this albino python.
Bea made sure it's tail stayed in place while the Ray's reptile guy took care of its head.

The python was a real hit.
Janika said she was afraid of reptiles, but you'd never know it.

Her head.

Once done Ray's, we took showers and returned back to the church for dinner.
Lasagna and salad.

Maddie enjoying dinner.

Apparently Martin and Evert get preferential treatment, and they aren't even staying for the week...what's with THAT! : )

After dinner it was time for praise team practice.
Shawn getting Ben and Olivia into the swing of things.

Mark with Kyle.  Both loving the music.

Worship Time.

Mark and I hamming it up.

Carolyn on the train.

Mark did a wonderful job tonight by talking about all the good things he saw in each Participant.
A gift he has.
Here's Shawn thanking Mark for his words.

And Lisa too.

Once worship was over, it was time to finish off the crafts that were started yesterday.  Nice bird houses.

Amy taping together her birdhouse.

Steve getting his bird house finalized.

Another interesting picture of Jonathan.

Everyone getting into the crafts.

Shawn 1/2 finished his craft.

Now this is an interesting picture.
I wonder who put that on your face Chris.
Good thing you shaved because that's gonna hurt taking it off.  : )

This year we instituted short games after craft time for people to participate in.

This one involved putting a marble on a paper towel roll cut in 1/2, and having it run down the path. People ran to the end to keep the marble moving.
It was lots of fun to watch.

This was a spider web of sorts.  Caralynn and Stephanie doing their best not to touch the strings.
IMPOSSIBLE!

Ryan trying to do it too.

Sara has the right idea.  Crawl underneath. THAT worked.

Becca...what have you done to your hair?

Interesting.  : )

We end this blog with a picture of people who go largely unnoticed here, but are very valuable to SERVE.
Our nighthawks.
Last night it was Jonah, David and Michael.
Tonight it's just Michael and Jonah (left to right).
They stay up all night to ensure people don't sleep walk out the church, or if they get up, to make sure they get back to their beds.  Thanks to all the night hawks to come and SERVE us.

So, another day in the books.
A good day, and a day where relationships continue to build.
Tomorrow we start with worksites.

Stay tuned for what happens next.....
Until then.....................
