2025 David Kentucky "learning opportunity" - Day 4 - Tuesday

Day 4. Tuesday.

A day that usually starts to set things out and things begin to gel.

Not today : )

But we did start off with Tia's big smile
Whoot!!! : )

And Cor chatting it up with Tia and Jason.
Well, Cor would chat it up with anyone  : )

Julia and Matt getting breakfast ready with Marika helping them out.

Morning Devotions led by Jason

After we eat, our cooks eat.
The pancakes were AMAZING!

Breakfast is served. Yes, it's reversed, I know.

And usually we don't have people help with dishes at breakfast time, but these ladies said, "We want to help out!!"
A great group.

Tia once again with her PAPER bagged lunch, but I think Chris was also doing this too : )

We started late again today.
Last year the organization we were with seemed a bit more organized.
The flooding just 3 weeks ago makes the work different, a bit chaotic, and yes, even frustrating for some of us.
This is back at city hall. All the stuff was taken out of the top floor. A new dumpster didn't arrive, so we couldn't clean up this stuff at the curb.

Tia and I also went to a home to clean out the basement, but when we arrived, we discovered it was already done. Miscommunication I guess.

Jess' group pressure washed the carpet store.

Chris stealing the show with this photo.
but you caaaannn see the difference.

Lots of work to do.

Then, well, they were done. Three groups with no work.

I got Tia's group to our site from yesterday and we loaded a fridge to be brought to our site for the owner, as the group last week threw her's out, despite her protesting.

Jess' group pressure washed the outside of a church close by as well. They will finish that off tomorrow as they ran out of fuel.

Back at our site.
More pictures to dry out.

More plates and items to wash.

More basement rooms to take doors off of and walls to be de-panelled. Eben is a hard worker.

And yes, Claudia is too. And Jason. : )
And yes, I didn't do much work today as I spent most of the day trying to get work for us tomorrow.

The fridge has arrived.

Alex and Rohan spent much of the day cleaning off anything that needed cleaning. I think they had more fun soaking each other than they did the items.

The basement work continues.

Studs only left, but in reality these studs probably should be taken out too, but that's for a group to determine in a couple of months.

Theo getting the shelves out of that super gross room from yesterday.

A burn pile is almost ready to light.

Oh, and there's Claudia working hard still. I have no idea who is helping her though.

The river had LOTS of tires in it.
They were taken out as best as can be and stacked here by Ethan. He did a great job.

Lunch time finally arrived. Alex with his signature pose.
The weather was really, really nice, though I hear it's 10°C in Ottawa today.

All our piles keep growing.

More dishes and trinkets were found to wash.
As a side note, Alex and Rohan found a nice piece of jewelry belonging to the homeowner, and they were able to take it home last night and clean it and give it to her today. She was very appreciative. A nice gesture.

Time to start the burn pile.

Well, Almost.

It's lit. And it was HOT.

We kept adding to it.

I kept watch over the fire.

Rohan and Alex continuing to have fun.

Indoor work continues.
Holden worked hard today.

As did all who were there.

Even Tia : )

Theo and Gareth working together.

Oh, and there's Claudia again.
Working of course  : )

Lots of pannelling still to come down.

And nails to hammer in that were protruding.

Ethan did a lot of sweeping today.

Brett and hmmmm who is that? : )

And there is the room that had all the gross stuff and rats in it.  Much better, but still needs more work in the future.

Jason worked hard today too.

Our dish washers got rashes on their elbows due to how they sat and washed the dishes.

We burned a pile of cardboard and wood from the neighbour's place as well.

Tia, Trevor (the guy we have been helping who is here from Florida for a month to just volunteer), Jason and Jess.  All of them are also doing a great job.

The washing continues, and yes, Gareth tried to fit into that toy car, and was able to! : )

Oh, hello again Claudia.

Cleaned dishes.

And all the totes filled with clean dishes.

And the work continues.

This was a bathroom I think.

Some wooden furniture was also cleaned up.

Mom and Dad, yes, Eben worked hard today and has the dirt to prove it : )

A short break and then clean up time and head home time.

Before we knew it, it was supper time.
Many really needed to shower first : )

Crazy youth : )
But fun loving as well : )

Tia's t-shirt reflects her personality perfectly.

At the end of the day, we again took time to reflect.
It wasn't always an easy day because some of us sat around a bit more than we wanted to, but we were able to bless our homeowner. She was in tears because of the help we were providing to her.

Cor's group went to do flooring work, but the supplies weren't there yet, so they spent the afternoon visiting with the homeowner, who had quite a story to tell.  That, too, is part of mission trips and something we all needed to be reminded of once again.

We are chilling now, and Jason and I will try to work out tomorrow's jobs. Continue to pray for us as we work and play and get to know each other as well.

Until tomorrow.
Thanks for tagging along with us.
